About Dr. Melissa Williams

Dr. Melissa Williams graduated medical school in 1997 after attending the University of Wisconsin – Madison. She then went on to a 3-year Internal Medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson in Philadelphia, after which she was selected to stay on an additional year as Chief Resident.

Dr. Williams went through fellowship training in Oncology for 3 years at Fox Chase Cancer Center, and then stayed on as a practicing physician specializing in breast cancer. In 2009, Dr. Williams moved to California with her family and joined Sutter Oncology as part of the solid tumor division with an emphasis in breast cancer. During her tenure, Sutter Oncology achieved the prestigious delegation as a National Accredited Breast Cancer Program. She has been personally recognized for her patient care and community service by numerous community organizations, including Force and Thriving Pink.

Dr. Williams loves her job as a community oncologist in an academic town. The job allows her to develop close personal relationships with patients and treat them as individuals, honoring their preferences. On top of the personal touch Dr. Williams brings, she also maintains close collaborations with academic colleagues at UC Davis, UCSF and Stanford – which is important to keep access open to the newest research and brightest minds in medicine.

In the little spare time Dr. Williams has, she enjoys reading, sewing and meditating. Above all she cherishes her close relationships with her husband, kids and friends doing things like cooking, hiking, skiing, going for runs and enjoying live concerts, from classical music to 80’s cover bands and everything in between. Last but not least, Dr. Williams enjoys spending time with the family golden retriever (and anybody else’s dog for that matter!) giving endless belly rubs.
